Kathy Fetchick
| Office: | Board of Education |
| Objectives: | I have been attending the Board of Education meetings for over two years and I understand that managing the school system is very complex. The challenge is to balance the quality and the needs of the school system with the costs. During my career, I have been responsible for understanding technical issues, managing people, scheduling, communicating both inside and outside the company, mentoring, training and recruiting. These skills are directly applicable to serving on the Board of Education. I believe that the Board of Education needs to be proactive in planning. The Board of Education needs to work with the school administration to solidify long term, measurable goals for both the educational policies and the physical structures of the school system. Even under difficult budget constraints, the superintendent and the Board of Education must lead the way toward maintaining and improving the quality of the school system while being responsible to the taxpayer. Additionally, I feel that the board must communicate and work effectively with other town boards and offices. Decisions cannot be made in a vacuum. If there is better communication, we increase the chance for reaching consensus among town leaders and the community; this will positively affect the students and taxpayers. I believe that the Board of Education needs people who are able to look at all parts of a problem and see the big picture. It needs people who are able to give vision to a long-term plan. It needs people who can communicate effectively with town leaders, parents, teachers, administrators and the community. I have all of these skills and want to be a contributing member of the Board of Education. You may download a copy of my campaign flyer from here. |
