Office: Board of Finance

Objectives:
My goal on the Board of Finance has always been to help make Newtown a place where people can afford to live without jeopardizing their financial future. This can only be accomplished by matching town revenues to town growth with strict adherence to budget policies and prioritization of all additional spending based upon residents willingness to fund those priorities.  We have a lot to be proud of in our town, and our overall growth of the budget has been less than other towns in the area, but we are still growing our expenses greater than many of our citizen’s ability to pay.  We need to make Newtown's cost of living reasonable again.  We can also set an example of financial moderation for the state government to follow.  We can start by:
·       Funding appropriate levels of both town and education budgets to keep in line with population  growth and student enrollments even if that means actual budget cuts and not just cutting the growth of the budgets.
·       Maintaining our dedication to sound fiscal policies with a goal towards obtaining an AAA bond rating which will reduce borrowing costs and lessen the need to raise taxes.
