Shannon Tomai

Shannon is a dedicated and passionate individual who brings a wealth of legal expertise and a strong commitment to community service.  Together with her fiancé, John, she is raising their four children in Newtown, all of whom attend or have graduated from Newtown’s public schools.  She has a strong commitment to giving back to the community and has volunteered for various activities related to her children, such as being a Girl Scout troop leader and a recreational soccer coach. Shannon's dedication to her children's education led her to take on an interim position at the Board of Education and run in this election to continue to make a positive impact on the community by focusing on the best interests of the children.

She is committed to helping Newtown become a blue ribbon school district again by prioritizing academic excellence and closing the achievement gaps to prepare Newtown’s children for future success.  Shannon believes that improving the education system benefits the entire community, including property values and attracting new families to Newtown.

In her professional life, Shannon is a results and integrity-driven corporate attorney with 17+ years of successful experience providing expert legal and strategic counsel to an organization's executive team. She has a proven track record as a skilled negotiator, solution-oriented professional, and excellent assessor and manager of risk. 

In her free time, Shannon enjoys being out on the family’s boat and spending time on the water. She is also an avid reader and finds inspiration in books by authors like Malcolm Gladwell and Mike Dooley.

Her experience, skills, and values make her an excellent candidate for Newtown’s Board of Education.
