Ben Ruben

Legislative Council District 3

My name is Ben Ruben and I am running for the Legislative Council here in Newtown.  I am a proud native of Connecticut, and a resident of Newtown since 2021, where I reside with my wonderful wife, Nina, our 3-year-old son Benny Jr, and our 1-year-old French Bulldog, Chancho. Nina and I are excited about welcoming a daughter in October.

I am deeply committed to fiscal responsibility, with a focus on securing a prosperous future for Newtown and its residents for generations to come, which is why I am running for Legislative Council. My advocacy extends to maintaining low taxes and delivering exceptional education with a focus on spending in the most efficient and effective ways for all our children to succeed. Moreover, I am determined to attract sensible, commercial developments that align with the unique charm of our beloved small town. Additionally, I will support working towards revitalizing Fairfield Hills’ abandoned structures that have long blemished our beautiful town's landscape. Together, these principles represent my unwavering dedication to preserving our community's character while fostering growth and opportunity for all.

My commitment to community involvement is reflected in my memberships in both the Campania Club in New Haven, Connecticut, and the Elks Lodge #265 in Waterbury, Connecticut. My dedication to the community extends beyond these affiliations; and more locally I am actively engaged as Vice Chair on the Board of the Newtown Community Center Commission, which has opened doors to further involvement, including my quest for a role on the Legislative Council. Previously, when living in Philadelphia, I sat as the President of our Homeowners Association of 10 townhomes, bearing the responsibility of working with all homeowners to resolve any problems that arose, while keeping dues low by negotiating costs with suppliers. Sitting in this position sparked an interest in continuing to work together with both residents and suppliers to meet everyone’s needs.

Professionally, I am a driven and dedicated self-employed Independent Manufacturer’s Representative with aggressive attention to detail and follow-through. Holding this position for 12 years has made me proficient in testing and qualifying products, building strong business relationships, training sales teams, and negotiating high level business transactions and closings. I pride myself on being a meticulous and innovated initiative-taker and congenial salesperson.

On a personal level, for over 15 years, rugby has been a cherished passion of mine. I began my rugby journey at Southern Connecticut State University, where I earned my degree in History and Political Science before advancing to play Division 1 Men's Rugby during my time in Philadelphia.

I believe in fostering friendships within the community, especially among families with children, both newcomers and lifelong residents. Additionally, quality time spent with local family members is a cherished part of my life.  I ask for your support this November in my candidacy for Legislative Council District 3.
