John Zachos

Legislative Council District 3

I have lived in Newtown on Elm Dr for 28 years along with my wife Ann raising our two children Alex (Chuck) and Abbey who both attended Middle Gate Elementary and graduated from Newtown High School.

I have a degree in Business Administration from the State University of New York College of Agriculture and Technology at Cobleskill.  I have worked in Supply Chain Operations for over 35 years which is a function that is non-revenue generating but rather one of cost savings. I was tasked with providing and contracting services such as domestic trucking, ocean freight, and manufacturing sourcing for the company and having to provide these at high quality with the lowest cost possible.

Newtown is an idyllic place to live and raise a family. It is a beautiful place to retire, however, the cost of living in Connecticut is quite high forcing many of our residents to look for lower-cost alternatives. In these times when we are paying more for groceries and energy, I will use my experience at being fiscally responsible by ensuring that the goods and services that we procure as a town, using your tax dollars, are both necessary and at the lowest cost.  We must do this without sacrificing the quality of the services we provide, the town infrastructure, or the safety of our residents.  We need to grow our tax base by bringing new businesses into town but doing so in a smart manner that ensures we have the infrastructure to support them. This will help to ease the tax burden of the residents. We can do this together without destroying the beauty and tranquility of Newtown.

On a personal note, I am an avid golfer albeit not a very good one but enjoy it, nonetheless. I love to cook, making a pretty good chili, homemade pasta, barbecue, and desserts specializing in Greek pastries.
