Steve Stolfi
Legislative Council District 1
Legislative Council District 1
Stephen (Steve) has been proud to call Newtown home for the past 26 years, living in District 1. During that time, Steve and his wife Kristen of 29 years raised their two daughters who attended Newtown public schools and greatly appreciates not only the strength of our community, but also the importance of giving back and listening to the needs of his neighbors.
Steve earned his BA in Political Science, with a minor Economics from Hartwick College and his MBA from Lake Forest Graduate School of Management and graduate work at UCONN School of Business. For more than 35 years, he has worked in the corporate world, and currently he is Chief Commercial Officer for an EdTech company dedicated to student safety and well-being. Before that, he spent over two decades in leadership roles—including President, CCO, and Chair of the Board—at a multinational company in the Intellectual Property Brand Protection industry.
His background is shaped by a wide variety of life experiences. He grew up in Waterbury, and has lived and worked in Washington, D.C., Chicago, and New York City. His career has also taken him abroad, working with people of many different cultures and countries. Earlier in life, he spent time as an exchange student in Germany, was Sr. Class President in High School, Co-Captain of the baseball team in college, a substitute teacher in Connecticut and Virginia, worked summer jobs as a dishwasher, collecting garbage for the city of Waterbury, and waited tables as a 2nd job after graduating college. These experiences taught him the value of hard work, humility, listening, teamwork and connecting with people from all walks of life.
Newtown has given Steve's family so much, and he wants to give back. This is Steves' first time running for public office, and he believes his professional experience—especially in managing budgets, building strong teams, and finding creative solutions—can help serve District 1 well on the Legislative Council. He cares deeply about maintaining Newtown’s historic character, protecting our open spaces, supporting our schools and infrastructure, and making sure taxpayer dollars are spent wisely.
Steve believes in fiscal responsibility, efficient government, and thoughtful development that fits with our town’s needs and capacity. He also believes in expanding services where they matter most—such as for seniors and youth mental health. As a Newtown Lions Club member, he has seen firsthand how much more we can do to keep our community clean via volunteering on Newtown Earth day. We can collectively keep our town beautiful and will bring creative approaches in solving our town recycling challenges, as well as our car traffic congestion and noise problems.
He will listen to the people he represents and is committed to working with everyone—Republicans, Democrats, and unaffiliated voters alike. Steve value's different viewpoints and believe that compromise and collaboration are how we achieve the best results.
In the community, Steve is a member of the Newtown Lions Club serving on the Car Raffle, Duck Race and Hunger committees. Personally, he plays on 2 wood bat adult men's baseball teams for the Redding Retros and Redding Ravens in the Northeast Baseball League and Steve and his wife have two wonderful dogs with whom he walks in his neighborhood and at Fairfield Hills.
Steve would be honored to serve District 1 on the Legislative Council. He knows Newtown is a special place, and he chose Newtown to plant roots because it truly is “nicer in Newtown.” He will work hard to keep it that way and to make sure our future stays bright
