Re-Elect Kadri Graffeo to the Newtown Board of Assessment Appeals
My name is Kadri Graffeo, and it has been my honor to serve on the Newtown Board of Assessment Appeals as a Republican candidate for the past four years. I have been asked to run for re-election, and I am both humbled and grateful for the opportunity to continue serving our town.
Originally from Estonia—a small country in Northern Europe just south of Finland—I came to the United States at age 23 as an au pair, eager to improve my English and embrace new experiences. A year later, I met my husband, Anthony, and together we chose to make Newtown our home. For the past 20 years, we have raised our four sons here, now ages 11 to 21, and have grown deeply rooted in this incredible community.
I’m running for re-election because I care deeply about Newtown and want to continue contributing to the strength and well-being of our town. As a board member, my responsibilities include reviewing residents’ applications, conducting in-person property inspections and comparisons, and working closely with residents on property tax concerns. My goal is to ensure fair and accurate assessments by helping correct clerical errors or omissions that may impact a homeowner’s tax liability.
My professional experience in real estate has given me extensive knowledge and insight that directly supports the work of the Board of Assessment Appeals. For 18 years, I have been actively involved in real estate—purchasing and renovating distressed properties, managing both long-term and vacation rentals, and working closely with local building, health, and zoning departments. For the past 10 years, I’ve been a full-time licensed real estate agent with Coldwell Banker Realty and a proud member of the Northern Fairfield County Association of Realtors. Every day, I analyze property values, review public records, and guide clients through permitting and compliance—skills that are crucial for accurate assessments and fair representation.
My work also includes identifying discrepancies between public records and actual property conditions. I’ve helped countless residents apply for missing permits or resolve property record issues that could have jeopardized a home sale. This hands-on experience makes me uniquely qualified to advocate for fairness, transparency, and accuracy on behalf of Newtown homeowners.
In addition to my professional work, I’m actively involved in our community. I’m the founder of the Newtown Sitters Facebook group—one of the first free local care networks for children, pets, and the elderly—which now serves over 5,000 members. I’ve volunteered in our public schools, especially at Middle Gate Elementary, as a room parent, classroom helper, and library assistant.
A few years ago, when our town faced a shortage of school bus drivers, I decided to help in a new way. I earned my CDL and began driving a school bus—an early morning and afternoon role that allows me to continue my real estate work while supporting our local transportation needs. It’s been a rewarding experience that has deepened my connection with many Newtown families.
My faith also plays a meaningful role in my life. Through my volunteer work with Grace Family Church, I’ve witnessed the incredible heart and generosity of this community time and again.
I am proud to call Newtown my home and would be honored to continue serving on the Board of Assessment Appeals. With your support, I will bring both professional expertise and personal dedication to the role—ensuring residents are treated fairly, respectfully, and with a commitment to accuracy.
I humbly and sincerely ask for your vote.
With gratitude,
Kadri Graffeo
