First Selectman-Elect Offers His Thanks And A Promise

To the Editor:
I want to thank Newtown voters for expressing their confidence in me yesterday to be our Town’s next First Selectman. I am grateful and will work hard to keep your trust. I would also like to express my gratitude to my running mate, John Madzula, for spending so much time with me on the campaign trail. While the voters chose a rather unique combination for the Board of Selectmen, he was not among the elected last night. John and I became closer friends during the campaign. He has done well for Newtown as chairman of the Board of Finance and I’m hopeful he will seek future opportunities to serve our Town.
I also would like to congratulate all other newly elected leaders, especially my fellow Selectmen Dan Cruson and Michelle Embree Ku. All worked hard and campaigned respectfully. The voters recognized this and rewarded them accordingly. They also sent a message that they want us to put aside party politics and work together for the betterment of Newtown. I feel I’ve had bipartisan successes during my tenure on the Legislative Council but it will be more of a focus of mine to work across party lines without sacrificing principles that have served Newtown in the past.
I encourage my fellow elected officials to work with me, to find common ground, and a shared vision for what the next chapter in Newtown’s history will look like. Let us work together to bring it to fruition for the betterment of people of our community.
Finally, I want all Newtowners to know that you have my ear. I will listen to all and I will use your combined knowledge to inform my decisions. Email, call or stop by the Municipal Center. My door will be open for you.
Best Regards,
Jeff Capeci
