Board of Finance
Hello, my name is Jim Landy, and I’m honored to be running for the Newtown Board of Finance.
I’m a proud Gen Xer, born in New York, raised in Yonkers, and moved to Danbury in 2010. In 2011 I married my wife, Bridget, and together we are raising our son, who now attends Reed Intermediate School. We chose to make Newtown our home in 2019 because of its open spaces, welcoming neighbors, and excellent schools.
My family and I love Newtown and all it has to offer. The Newtown Youth Academy and Community Center are incredible resources for our town—true assets that other communities envy. My son learned to ride his bike at Fairfield Hills, swim at the Community Center pool, and has built lasting friendships here. Newtown isn’t just where we live—it’s our HOME.
We share our home with our rescue dog and cat, Gracie and Penny, and often walk the trails of Fairfield Hills, enjoying the peace and beauty this community provides.
Since 2020, I’ve been proud to serve on the Fairfield Hills Authority Board, where I’ve reviewed and voted on projects that include pickleball courts, sensible redevelopment of campus buildings, and opportunities to strengthen Newtown’s growth while preserving its character.
Professionally, I am a Compliance Examiner at a leading insurance company, with more than 30 years of experience in compliance and financial oversight. I hold the Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) designation, which has equipped me to identify fraud, improve processes, and protect clients’ best interests. My career also includes work with the Commodities Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), FINRA (formerly NASDR), and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC).
I have also volunteered my expertise to review state filings of charities, analyze business financials, and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
Throughout my career, I’ve focused on identifying the root causes of problems, holding people accountable, and creating policy solutions that protect communities. I want to bring that same dedication to Newtown’s Board of Finance—to promote smart economic development, support local businesses, and ensure tax dollars are used efficiently and effectively. When businesses thrive, families thrive—and so does our town.
Together, let’s make sure Newtown’s future remains strong, balanced, and fiscally sound.
