Donna Rahtelli
Legislative Council District 2
Legislative Council District 2
My name is Donna Rahtelli and I am proud to be running for the Newtown Legislative Council, District 2. For the past 35 years, Joe and I have called Newtown our home. We’ve raised our three children here, built deep roots in the community, and experienced firsthand what makes Newtown such a special place to live. From the moment I settled in Newtown, I felt called to get involved.
I joined the Newtown Newcomers and Neighbors Club, where I served as President. Those early experiences deepened my connection to the town and reinforced my belief in the power of community engagement. As our children reached school age, my focus naturally turned to supporting their education. I became actively involved in the Home and School Association, serving as both Treasurer and Secretary. These roles gave me valuable insight to the needs of our students, teachers and families and strengthening my commitment to ensuring every child has a chance to thrive. I have also been a very active member of St. Rose Church, serving in various capacities over the years. Most recently, I was proud to serve as the organizer and founding president of the Columbiettes- a service- oriented organization of Catholic women dedicated to fellowship and community outreach.
I presently serve as Financial Secretary of the State Columbiettes, helping to manage its operations and ensure its continued impact. I also had the privilege of serving on the Library Board of Trustees for 8 years, holding the roles of Secretary and Chair of Development. During that time, I worked to support the library’s mission, expand its resources, and strengthen its connection to the community. I am currently a Daisy Girl Scout Leader, working with kindergarten and first grade girls to help them build confidence, kindness and a strong foundation in leadership and service. I am a graduate of Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and Finance. Following graduation, I worked in the hedge fund industry for several years gaining valuable experience in financial management, strategic planning, and organizational leadership- skills I bring to my volunteer and community work. I later continued my education at Fairfield University where I earned a Master’s in Education.
For the past 23 years, I have had the privilege of serving as an educator. It is a role I cherish and one that fuels my dedication to strengthening education and community in our town.
My life revolves around Newtown and my deepest wish is that all generations-current and future- can afford to live and thrive here. I am here to listen to every voice in our town whether you are younger, older, or anywhere in between! Your concerns, ideas, and hopes matter to me, and I am committed to representing all members of our community with respect and dedication. I will work tirelessly to preserve the great quality of life that makes our Newtown special, while ensuring it remains welcoming and accessible to everyone.
