Legislative Council District 3
My name is Tracey Pertoso and I am running for Legislative Counsel. I have been a resident of Newtown since 2018, where I reside with my husband, Robert, daughter, Sophia, and 4 rescue dogs from Aruba-Vincenzo, Giovanna, Salvatore and Lorenzo.
We could not be more proud to call Newtown our home and we look forward to creating a lifetime of memories here. In order to do that, however, we must focus on fiscal responsibility noting the ever-rising cost of living in Connecticut. I feel strongly that we need the residents who have spent their lives and raised their families here to be able to afford to remain here. We also need to ensure their children can always afford to call Newtown their home.
Professionally, I have practiced as a litigator for the past 24 years in both Connecticut and New York and am a fierce, yet measured, advocate. A significant part of my role in representing my clients involves thoughtful financial management and efficiency. It also requires a future oriented plan and strategy. Collectively, I will use these skills to balance the fiscal needs of the town with the desire to provide our children with an exceptional education, a safe place to raise our families all while looking to grow our tax base in a way that aligns with the character of the town.
On a personal note, I am passionate about community service and my volunteerism is diverse. At present, I am serving my second term on Newtown’s Economic Development Commission. I am a Sergeant and Assistant Squad Leader with The Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard, here in Newtown, as well as the Chair of their Fundraising Committee; a flight volunteer and escort for Aruba Flight Volunteers and New Life for Paws which rescues and transports dogs and cats from Aruba to the United States for adoption. I have also spent the last 10 years as a volunteer with Casseroles for the Hungry, a program where we prepare meals each month for the Dorothy Day Hospitality House in Danbury. Previously, I served for two years as the President of the HSA for St. Joseph School in Brookfield where I was responsible for raising the necessary funds to close the gap between the tuition and the actual cost of the education provided.
My personal motto is listen first, speak second.
