John Madzula II

Born and raised in Newtown, John Madzula II, is the current chairperson of the Board of Finance and a board-certified litigation attorney who specializes in the areas of insurance defense, construction litigation, business formation and bonding/surety disputes.   Madzula is currently seeking a spot on the Board of Selectman, which is responsible for coordinating the activities of all the departments of the Town and for reviewing the present and future needs of Newtown.

Beyond his accomplished legal career and dedicated service to Newtown, Madzula was at the helm of his family’s Construction and Architecture business.  He was integral in leading many significant commercial, community, and residential projects, his most favorite being the renovation of his personal residence on historic Main Street in Newtown, alongside his father.

Madzula has a keen understanding of municipal operations and skillfully applies that insight to his legal practice, where one of his specializations includes representing prominent developers in construction and zoning disputes.  He also proudly served as an appellate attorney in the US Court of Appeals for Veteran Claims, advocating for veterans spanning World War II through the Persian Gulf War in their appeals for service-connected benefits.

Madzula has served two terms on the Board of Finance, the most recent as board chairperson, and a term on the Conservation Commission which advises and regulates the natural resources for the Town of Newtown.

A testament to his connection to community, Madzula is the son a retired Newtown High School Spanish teacher, and cherishes the opportunity to live in the same town as his parents.
