Legislative Council District 1
My name is Jim Landy. It’s a pleasure to be running as a Candidate for District 1 Newtown’s Legislative Council. I am a Gen Xer, born in New York, raised in Yonkers, and moved to Danbury in 2010. I married my wife, Bridget in 2011 and we have a son. We moved to Newtown in 2019 for the Great Schools, where my son attends Head o’ Meadow Elementary.
My family and I LOVE Newtown and all it has to offer. The Newtown Youth Association and Community Center are great assets to our town and an envy of many. My son learned to ride his bike in Fairfield Hills, learned to swim in the Community Center pool, and has all of his friends in Newtown. We love to call Newtown our HOME.
We have a rescue dog and cat, Gracie and Penny. My wife and son, Gracie, and I walk a lot of Newtown and enjoyed the tranquility it offered when we first moved here. We continue to enjoy its trails, bike paths, the Community Center and the Gym and the NYA.
I have been serving on the board of the Fairfield Hills Authority since 2020 and I have reviewed and voted on improvements for our Fairfield Hills campus, especially seeking any opportunities to benefit or that would promote the growth of our town.
I am a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), which is a valued certification in the compliance world. I work at an Insurance Company, where I am a Compliance Examiner. I oversee office inspections and agent interviews to ensure the welfare of our client’s best interests. Being a CFE has helped me identify faults and frauds by agents, clients and outside companies. I have also worked at the National Association of Securities Dealers Regulation (NASDR)/ Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC).
I have done volunteer work where I have reviewed state filings of charities and verified funding, analyzed business financials for gaps in their state reporting and reviewed business plans for State and Federal violations.
My entire 29-year career has been in Compliance, determining the root causes of problems, shining light on those problems and creating policy that puts things right for people and community. I want to see current business flourish in Newtown and our more business opportunity in Newtown. When our businesses flourish, our people have more choices and opportunities to work and grow in Newtown. While other areas suffer under the constraints of taxes and misaligned spending, I will ensure Newtown’s District 1 will vote to be more “Efficient and Effective” with their spending to the benefit of Newtown’s growth.
