Planning and Zoning
I would like to introduce myself; my name is Connie Widmann. I moved to Newtown in October of 2003, and since then have raised my family here, established a successful business, and have been extremely active in the community.
I am married to Jim Widmann, an inventor and pyrotechnician who manufactures fireworks, built the world's largest shell a few times, and holds several world records in the Guinness Book of World Records. He also has a background in woodworking. I have two children; my son Jimmy is 27 and graduated from Newtown High School. He is an avid golfer and is currently employed by Tauck Tours in the Finance Department. My daughter Sarah is 22, and also graduated from Newtown High School, a semester early! She currently lives in NYC, attends the Fashion Institute of Technology, and graduates this coming spring! We have a dog named Ruthie, who we all love.
After living here in Newtown for the past 20 years, I can truly say that I call this town home. We all love it here and are actively involved with the community. My interest falls predominately in the arts, and I have volunteered for the Arts Festival since it’s inception. Currently my team and I have been the co-sponsor for the Edmond Town Hall music series for the last 4 series. The music is wonderful, and my hope is that ETH continues to grow and flourish.
For the past 20 years, I have built a successful Real Estate business working for William Raveis Real Estate and am the team leader of Connie Widmann and Team.
I currently serve on the Planning and Zoning commission as an alternate. The past two years have been a very interesting learning experience. As we know, the community has been faced with some challenging decisions such as the Wharton warehouse, Mt. Pleasant apartments, Hawleyville Road apartments, and Commerce Road apartments. Through this process, I believe that I contributed to the discussions and demonstrated a leadership role. I was thorough and diligent in my assessing each application against our zoning regulations and the Plan of Conservation and Development.
The community will be faced with more growth decisions, including the updated version of the Plan of Conservation and Development. I have played a role along with the director and a few other commissioners with the company that will assist us in this 10-year update. I believe that I have excellent listening, communication, and negotiations skills that will help me in all decision-making situations that the Planning and Zoning Commission will be faced with. If re-elected, I will be committed to leading our town through future discussions to ensure that any growth will uphold the town's small town feel and natural setting.
Thank you for considering me as a candidate for the Planning and Zoning Commission.
